Judith Hyatt, Pharm.D. graduated from SUNY Buffalo. She served as an associate professor for the Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine at SUNY Buffalo, was a preceptor for students of both schools and a Residency Program Director. She was a researcher at the Clinical Pharmacokinetics Lab and more recently, a psychiatric pharmacist at the VA. Now retired, she is a breast cancer metavivor and with her background in pharmacokinetics, she authored a book for people with breast cancer interested in safely integrating supplements into their breast cancer therapy. What sets this book apart from other supplement books is that she uses pharmacokinetics of metabolic pathways. Each chapter covers a different class of supplements and at the end of each chapter is a table that includes metabolic pathway(s) for different supplements so the reader can see which may interact with cancer medication. This is important because an interaction can result in cancer medication side effects, or even loss of efficacy and necessitate a change in medication that was previously working well. While not making recommendations, the information provided can help the reader, working with their treatment team, to find supplements less likely to interact with their cancer medications.
